I'm unsure how many rolls of wallpaper I need to order, can you help me calculate this?
Sure! One of the most common questions we have at ADORNIS is from customers asking how many rolls of wallpaper they need to cover their room. There's nothing worse than getting halfway through decorating and finding that you don't have enough wallpaper, or finishing the job with rolls to spare. Therefore we have created a wallpaper roll calculator to work out how many rolls of wallpaper you will need. Don't forget to have the measurements of your room at the ready.
What size is a standard roll of wallpaper?
A standard size of wallpaper is 21"x33' which is usually 57.89 sq. feet coverage depending on the pattern, unless stated otherwise.
Can I hang new wallpaper over the top of existing wallpaper?
It is possible but to achieve the best result we wouldn't recommend it. The new wallpaper will also not adhere to other textured or vinyl coated wallpapers underneath. It's always best to strip off any existing wallpaper before re-decorating.
What effect does heat have when hanging wallpaper?
Wallpaper needs to be allowed to dry naturally in a well ventilated environment. In areas of high temperature, the drying process may speed up causing the wallpaper to shrink leaving the dreaded gaps in between strips.
Why is it important to prep my walls?
For the best possible result, ensure your walls are in their best condition prior to wallpapering. Be sure to remove all old paste residues. The old paste can stop the new paste from adhering to the wall properly. The wall must be roughened with sandpaper too. Emulsion paint can also result in application errors as again the paste cannot penetrate into the wall.
The colour is coming off when I wipe the wallpaper?
Our wall coverings are generally printed using water based inks. In order to ensure that the colours remain 'fast' after printing, a binding solution is added to the inks. Rubbing hard or using cleaning fluids will compromise the binding solution and cause the colour to come off. It is also recommended that any excess paste on the surface of the paper is removed immediately using a damp sponge. Again, the integrity of the binding solution will be compromised if excess paste is allowed to remain on the printed surface for longer than 5 minutes. Darker colours have more propensity to come off than lighter colours and therefore require extra care.
What causes bubbling or creasing on the wall after hanging?
There are generally two types of bubbles associated with hanging wall coverings which are either due to trapped air or more seriously, continued expansion:
The wallpaper edges won't stick down, how do I stop them from lifting?
This type of problem is normally an adhesion issue and the most common cause is 'drying-in' of the adhesive at the edge of the paper. When wallpaper is folded adhesive side in, the only area that is exposed to the atmosphere during the soaking period is the very edge of the sheet and it is this area that starts to dry out first. It is therefore important that an adequate amount of adhesive is applied particularly to the edges. The use of a seam roller may prove beneficial in such circumstances but be careful not to damage the surface of the wall covering.
How do measure if my wall is not a square or rectangle?
You simply need to note the widest and tallest side of the wall for calculation. While pasting the wallpaper you can trim away the excess paper.
What kind of images can be used for personalized wallpapers?
For customization of wallpaper it is advised that you provide actual size in 100dpi. Please note that enlarging an image can make the image look blurry in print. Hence we always recommend you call us for clarification or mail us the image to check if the image is useful or not.
Is it required to get a specialized person to paste the wallpapers?
Even though wallpapers are "Do it Yourself", we always suggest you take professional help to get the patterns aligned and avoid bubbles.
